Keane slept at 7 pm yesterday and hence had no trouble waking him up this morning! :)
We bathed, had breakfast and chanted for a short while before going off.
The kids entered the class, took off their shoes and sanitized their hands. Some kids started playing with Lego and some sat down to eat their breakfast.
Besides Keane, there was another new student, a girl name Wenxin.
Teacher Rosalind said I may sneaked away after a while, but I told her I would like to stay to observe the class and that I will only leave half way the next day. She obliged.
Compared the the 2nd session, this class is big. And I don't think the 1st session is better than the 2nd session in terms of roughness (Teacher Rosalind told me so previously)...
Some students are already 3 years old and are playing pretty roughly... throwing of lego blocks... pushing the smaller kids... I couldn't help but told XXX (an older boy) who was pushing TTT (a younger boy) and snatching all the toys he was playing, "XXX, can you share with TTT?"
"Where are the teachers?" you may asked.
Teacher Rosalind is busy collecting fees (1st day of the month) while the assistant, Teacher Cyndia is busy washing other students' hands...
I was a little afraid that Keane and other smaller kids, will be pushed...
Finally, all was settled.... and the class began.
The class sang the Good Morning song and other songs, followed by story telling. Keane was sticking to me all the while, upon seeing the storybook, stood up and moved towards Teacher Rosalind.
"Sit down! Sit down!" the students told Keane.
"Tell didi (younger brother) nicely. He's new and young," said Teacher Rosalind.
Keane could understand and sat down.
The next lesson was potato printing. Some students followed Teacher Rosalind to do the art work while the others played lego (again).
Teacher Cyndia had to wash the kids' hands after the art work, and could not really take keep a lookout at the kids... :(
When it was Keane's turn to do the printing, he was quite happy. He has always enjoy doing works like this. :)
After all the kids had done their printing, they had a short break and drank water (they brought along their water bottles), and some visited the toilet.
Before the lesson ended, they sang songs with actions, and the kids will marched round the room with the teachers. The kids were then made to sit down in a straight line, wear their shoes, sanitized their hands and waited for their parents to fetch them home.
End of Keane's first day in playgroup...
Below are some of the pictures I took. Enjoy!
Waiting for the bus.
Keane was observing the crowd of kids...
Keane sat away from the kids... *warming up*
Began to take some toys upon much prompting from me...
Looking around...
Smiling at Teacher Cyndia
A boy handed a toy to Keane
Keane began playing, but still quite reserved...
This girl who is playing with Keane is born in the year 2005
Can you see Keane?
(He's besides Teacher Cyndia)
Waiting for his turn to do potato printing.
Keane's turn to do printing! He is smiling!
Doing the printing with the help of Teacher Rosalind.
Though I find the class noisy and rough, and is worried that Keane may be hurt by the older kids, I guess I will still continue with the playgroup. I trust the teachers to be responsible in taking care of the kids' well being, and that they will be patient with Keane. Afterall, Keane is the youngest, can't talk much and can't take care of himself yet; he's unable to wear his sandals like the other kids when the class ended. Hopefully, he will pick up those self-help skills as time goes by.
