Newater Plant
I have been searching the net for ideas of how Keane can spend his Nov-Dec holidays wisely.
While he will have fun, I hope it will also inculcate some positive values in him.
However, most educational programmes are cater for kids at least 5 years of age.
It wasn't easy to find a suitable one for him.
Keane loves to play water in the bathtub; he'd spend hours in it if I did not stop him.
I told him that water is very important, especially in Singapore.
Then it occurred to me, why not bring him to visit the Newater Plant?
Nevermind the fact that he is too young to understand the technical terms and concepts; my main motive is to let him understand that Water of Singapore does not come easy.
Hence I arranged for the trip and visited the Newater Plant today!
There was a group of Poly students coming to do research for their project.
For Keane, it was more of inquisitive play.
Our tour guide, Uncle Martin, was very patient and friendly, and it made the tour more enjoyable.
He told Keane,"When you grow bigger, you'll come here to do projects like those big kor kor (brothers)",
"You don't understand now, but you will understand when you are older",
"Kindergartens and Primary Schools will bring the students here for visit too. So we'll meet again",
"When you older, come and look for Uncle Martin, ok? Remember Uncle Martin" etc etc.
The big kor kors also played with him for a while.
I slowly drifted myself away (but not too far) from him so that he can interact with Uncle Martin and the kor kors on his own.
The tour ended in one and a half hour.
On our way back, I asked him what he had learned from the tour.
He answered, "Newater is Singapore-made water. I can press the buttons to see many things, such as the germs and bacteria, and how Newater is made. Water is important. No water, no life!"
I was impressed! I didn't expect him to say that much!
I went through with him what we saw at the tour and told him about the Four National Taps as well as read the activity book with him. Will do the activity book with him for the next few days. Keane also requested to visit the Newater Plant and Uncle Martin soon!
We also went to catch Rapunzel: A Tangled Tale in 3D at Century Square.
The movie was great! =)
PS: Will try to upload the rest of the Newater pictures in Facebook.
