Brought Keane to the playground with my Malay neighbour Sue's 2nd daughter. But it started to drizzle not long after that... So we ended up at Sue's house chatting while Keane played with her kids.
Sue told me that the news reported yesterday about a 2 year old girl being bashed to death by her father was a relative of her hubby... She went on telling me that the father of the girl is jobless, the mother is not working as she needs to take care of the 3 kids, the deceased 2 year old girl being the eldest of the 3.
On that fateful day, the girl was playing when she saw her father's box of cigarettes. She took them out and broke them into pieces... Her father upon seeing that, was infuriated... He slapped the girl, beat her up and even stepped on the small body... I was very shocked and angry as she related the whole incident to me... I asked Sue why didn't the mum stopped the crazy man from beating the girl up and she told me that she was cooking in the kitchen and it was too late by the time she wanted to stop her husband... But Sue didn't understand why the mum did not call the ambulance or police straight away when her daughter laid there, having difficulties in breathing... We were so mad and cursed the father of the poor little girl...
"He ought to be hang!" I said.
"Of course!" Sue agreed.
However, the case which was supposed to be held today was delayed as they were going to test the father's IQ. If he has a mental problem, he will not be hang but imprisoned only...
I hugged Keane tightly and planted kisses on him after hearing what Sue told me... Sue laughed and said she did the same to her youngest son too when she saw the news. Sue went on to say that they don't know the meaning of having a family and having kids... I couldn't agree more... It is indeed very sad when innocent kids are being born into families with irresponsible parents... I will do my best to make sure darling Keane will not be hurt in any way.
To keep a child happy while arousing his interest and curiosity at the same time need not be very expensive.
Ever since I have darling Keane, I will take note of events and performances which I can bring Keane to. Especially during economic downturns like this and not having enough to spend, I try my best to make sure I stimulate his little brain as much as possible before the window of opportunity reduce by half at age three.
Neighbourhood malls usually have free performances or activities for families to enjoy and participate in. For examples, just not long ago, I've brought Keane to the Kitty performance at TM, the Mickey Mouse photo-taking at Changi Airport etc. All these are free and keeps the child happy. Most importantly, parent-child bonding is strengthened too.
Keane likes lion dance. In one of the DVDs about Festivals, the famous Hi-5 called it dragon dance. I told Keane that Hi-5 is wrong and it should be lion dance. Keane was reluctant and said, "No! Dragon dance!" Well... I supposed that is the impact of the media! But with constant reminder as well as showing him pictures and books on lion dance, Keane began to realise lion dance is the correct term.
When I learned about the lion dance performance, I decided to bring Keane to see the show. It's not really the same as the typical kind of lion dance though, because it is the Northern Lion. Still, it is a good chance for Keane to experience for himself the beauty of our oriental culture!
Enough said, uploaded some pictures here for sharing!
Waiting for the performance to begin.
Got a Malay lady to take a picture for us. Yes, Malays, Indians and even foreigners were here to see the performance!
Dozing off...
Waking the lion up...
Biting the ball!
See the hole in the centre?
Papers with numbers on them flew out and I got myself number 7483.
I didn't buy 4D though.
You may buy it if you think I'm streaked with good fortune,
which I seriously think I lack...
PS: As CNY is around the corner, I had changed the blog's background colour to red and "$" are "drop" from the top... May this Year of Ox brings all of us bundles of good fortune...
